The numbers and statistics associated with homeless children are shocking, the most awakening being that 13 children die on the streets each day from abuse, disease, and suicide. This is one of the many daunting facts that inspired Rick Koca to found StandUp for Kids.
If you talk to a street kid who has been on the streets for any period of time, they will tell you that after a while, they don’t recognize who they have become, and worse yet, they don’t care. For them, there is no tomorrow!
The mission of StandUp For Kids is to help homeless and street kids, which is something they do every day. Their focus goes beyond street outreach and extends to prevention and resource programs that they provide in schools and via the Internet. Every facet of their mission is guided by the directive that the volunteers tell kids they care about them and then, at every point, prove it.
They currently have 59 local programs in cities across America and are always looking for the first light in a new city or state.
What does this have to do with the arts and Talenthouse? I’m glad you asked.
Grammy Award winning band Switchfoot recently launched a call for artists on our website in partnership with StandUp for Kids and Jedidiah Clothing. They’ve invited artists to submit their most creative hoodie designs for the chance to have it printed and distributed by Jedidiah Clothing, with proceeds from every purchase benefiting StandUp For Kids. Additionally, the winning artist will receive massive exposure and recognition for their design along with $1500 cash.
We are very supportive of all of the projects that come to Talenthouse but knowing we’re helping to give back and do good for the world makes the experience that much sweeter.
