It’s enlightening to see so many artists from the different corners of the entertainment industry come together in order to support a still-relevant cause. Sean Penn’s J/P Haitian Relief Organization, Artists for Peace and Justice and the Happy Hearts Fund will all be recipients of the the proceeds from a benefit dinner and concert that will take place in the midst of the Cannes Film Festival.
The May 18 event will kick off with a dinner thrown by host Giorgio Armani at the Festival Agora, which will be followed by a Hatian concert featuring RaRa and Racine music from the RAM band who will be flown in from Haiti. Actor Sean Penn, screenwriter/producer Paul Haggis, and model Petra Nemcova will all participate.
J/P Haitian Relief Organization (J/P HRO)‘s aims to help lift Haiti out of the rubble by improving living conditions, clearing rubble, and providing medical services, education and enrichment programs, housing construction, and neighborhood redevelopment.
Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ) is a non-profit organization founded by Haggis and friends in 2009. It helps children and their families in the poorest communities in Haiti by supporting programs through the Academy for Peace and Justice, the first free secondary school in Port-au-Prince.
Happy Hearts Fund (HHF)‘s mission is to rebuild schools and restore opportunity in the lives of children after natural disasters.
Sounds like this will be the perfect break from all those film screenings!
