I believe that beauty comes from living and experiencing life…the more you look for beauty, the more beauty will find you.

Talenthouse‘s Creative Invite to become the Face of BCBGMAXAZRIA Spring 2013 gave women across the country the chance to be flown to LA and model for the famous brand. Some were newcomers to the field, and some – like Zandrea Penn – had been modeling for years. In this video and accompanying written piece, BCBG’s selected Semifinalist Zandrea Penn talks about her inspiration for modeling, her aspirations and balanced philosophy.

TH: Is there a model in the industry that you look up to?
Kate Moss has always been a model that I look up to. I first encountered Moss when I was in elementary school; my sister had a book of filled with photos of her…I followed Moss’ career in amazement and saw her blossom into a fashion icon. I hope to one day make a name for myself by pushing the bounds of fashion as Moss still does to this day.

TH: What other great projects would you want to work on in the future?
I am open to many different projects and I consider myself to be a very creative and outgoing person. I would like to progress to the farthest possible extent in my model career. I have already fulfilled one of my dreams by being a part of this wonderful contest with BCBG and Talenthouse.

TH: To you, what does true beauty mean?
Beauty is non-existent without acknowledgement from another. I believe that beauty comes from living and experiencing life. The more you smile, the more people will smile at you. The more you love, the more you’ll see love. And the more you look for beauty, the more beauty will find you.

TH: What’s the best advice you’ve received with regards to modeling?
“Shoot for the moon, even if you miss you’ll land among the stars” – Brian Littrell

TH: What gave you the confidence to pursue a difficult career path at a young age?
Both my friends and family played a huge role in giving me the confidence I needed to pursue my dream of modeling.

TH: How to you combat negative stereotypes about the modeling industry?
As with any industry in the eye of the media there will always be controversy. It is important to remember to always be true to yourself and to others.

TH: Do you have any comments about the photoshoot process?
I had a great time at the photoshoot. It was such an amazing experience. The photoshoot was a lot of work, but was still very fun. I loved that we were all dressed up and made up. The whole process was something that I will never forget.

TH: What’s your favorite accessory?
My favorite fashion accessory are my oversize sunglasses. I am a huge advocate for sun protection. You wear your skin every day, why wouldn’t you treat it with the utmost respect.
